Healthy
Ohioans
In July 2005, the Ohio
Department of Health (ODH)
created a partnership with
the American Lung
Association® of
Ohio. This one-year
project, through the Healthy
Ohioans initiative, will run
through fiscal year ’05-’06
and is part of the
multi-year, statewide
initiative under the
direction of Gov. Bob Taft.

Ohioans,

Healthy Ohioans website.
Healthy Ohioans (HO)
encourages and supports
Ohioans as they make better
choices and live longer,
healthier lives. This
program stresses the
importance of healthy
lifestyles, encouraging all
Ohioans to be physically
active, eat nutritious foods
and avoid the use of
tobacco.
The overall goal of this
collaborative project with
Healthy Ohioans is to reduce
the burden of chronic
disease through outreach,
awareness, and education,
with an emphasis on the
linkages between healthy
behaviors and control or
prevention of chronic
disease.

Ways to Give
|
|
As defined by the Ohio
Department of Health,
the major focus area for
the Healthy Ohioans
project is Appalachian
counties. Often an
underserved region, ALAO
is committed to
providing information,
resources and services
to Ohio’s Appalachian
counties. These 29
priority counties were
decided upon by the Ohio
Department of Health.
All local health
departments in targeted
communities will receive
information on project
activity and happenings
in their communities.
